Professional Presence is a set of skills that allow people to make an impact, both in
person and online. It includes elements of confidence and credibility. When you
develop these skills, you become someone that others listen to and respect, no
matter the situation or setting.
In the modern world of remote work, professional presence has become more
important than ever before. It’s not just about how you dress or what technology you
use, it’s about being able to connect with your peers and clients. Being able to
communicate clearly and concisely is essential for a successful career. But you also
need to be able to establish yourself as an expert in your field.
Developing a strong professional presence is vital for advancing your career, and
there are a few key characteristics to consider:
Charisma: Being able to connect with others in an authentic way can help you
establish yourself as a leader in the workplace. This can be accomplished through
being a team player, demonstrating leadership, or simply being a good listener.
Having a positive attitude is also critical for building relationships with others.
Gravitas: This is the sense of power and authority that you exude through your
actions, words, and body language. In a recent study, Sylvia Ann Hewlett discovered
that over 300 senior executives felt that gravitas was one of the most important
attributes of effective leadership.
Communication Skills: Being able to express yourself effectively is a key element of
professional presence. Whether in a face-to-face meeting, phone call, or email, you
need to be able to convey that you are knowledgeable and confident in your
abilities. This can be achieved through practicing active listening and being able to
answer questions clearly and concisely.
Appearance: This is the way you present yourself to others in terms of your dress,
grooming and body language. Being punctual and dressing in a manner that is
appropriate for the workplace can help you to establish yourself as a professional. In
addition, it is important to be able to stand up straight and have confident hand
gestures when you are speaking.
Developing your own professional presence can be difficult. Often times, we are
taught to be someone else in order to succeed in the workplace. However, it’s
important to remember that we are all unique and have our own strengths that will
help us be successful. The most important thing to remember is that if you are able
to establish yourself as an expert in a certain area, it will ultimately lead to success.
So don’t be afraid to take a risk and try something new! It might just be the key to
unlocking your true potential.
